ANOTHER GREAT DAY AT TWENTY NINE PALMS!!
By Barbara Nimesgern
Sixteen members of the League and Auxiliary left Lake Havasu at O’Dark Thirty on March 4 and headed to Twenty Nine Palms for another terrific trip. Special thanks goes to Jean and Gary Hayes, Reina Gall, MaryLou Anderson, Irene Shutz (brand new member) and her husband Ron, President Muzzetta Elliott and her husband Stan, Eddie Dunn, Joanie Determan, Bonnie McDonald-Wegman (new member) and her husband Leonard, our new Commandant Frank Blain and Past Commandant Kim McCoy, and my husband Jimmy for buying and delivering the mountain of non-perishable foods, household items from the November Garage Sale, 90 fleece blankets made and donated from Linda Babic (not a member but a supporter ☺), stuffed animals, toys, baby clothes and the Hallmark goodies. Another gigantic thanks must go to so many of you ladies who either shopped or donated money for the food collection project. A special big hug goes to Fran Bittner, C.D. DuBane, Donna Howe, Jeannie Panos, Adeline Reiten, Debbie Soden, Terry Chedotte, Tonya Rush and last but not least, to Harley Elwell for his donation of $160! We made a huge difference in the Food Pantry at the Armed Services/YMCA! It was almost bare!! And it arrived just in time ---the Marines and Sailors were in between paydays and the free groceries will help get them through the next week. Perfect timing ☺ Of course, the check of $2500 didn’t hurt either. I want to also send a shout out to Reina Gall, our new Chaplain. She had her church collect food for the Marines and Sailors. She had boxes that needed 3 men to lift and put them into her truck! Not only that, a married couple that she knows, donated a $100 Visa Card to the AS/YMCA to purchase whatever they needed! Amazing!!!!! Without everyone’s support throughout the year by participating in all of the Auxiliary’s fundraisers, there would be no funds to help out our military families during tragic emergencies. And the food that you all donated will help about 150 families; and that equates to $40-$50 that they will save from your groceries which can be applied towards buying a tank of gas to get them to work! And by the way, when you go to the gas pump here in LHC, tack on another dollar -- and that is what those young families pay at the gas pump in California – even on base.
So from the bottom of my heart, I thank you all for your continued support for this much needed help! And a special thanks and Oo-Rah goes to Ron Silva who was our official photographer ☺ (I apologize in advance if I left anyone’s name from my “thank you’s”).
